How the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Could Benefit from the Pixel Fold?

A little over a week from now, at a Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea, Samsung will show off its next-generation foldable. We think the company will show off the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, as well as the newest Galaxy smartwatches and computers, at the event.

Leaks suggest that Samsung’s next flagship foldable won’t have any major design changes. Instead, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to be slightly smaller, thinner, and lighter than its predecessor. It will also have a redesigned hinge that will let it fold flat and Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, which will boost its performance. In addition to these changes, I think that the Google Pixel Fold could help the Galaxy Z Fold 5 make some important software improvements.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 Could Benefit from the Pixel Fold’s Software Experience

Even though the Google Pixel Fold may not be the best folding phone on the market, it is one of the most important smartphones to come out this year. This is because it is Google’s first foldable made in-house, and the company can use it to test and improve Android for other foldable. Some changes have already been made to the Pixel Fold to help users make better use of its folding design. Since Samsung works closely with Google to improve the software on its devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 could get the same software updates.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 Might Feature an Improved Taskbar

Google added a menu to Android 12L for foldable and big-screen devices so that users can quickly open apps they use often. With the Pixel Fold, the company came out with a better form of the taskbar that can do more. The dynamic menu makes it easy to open often-used apps, switch between apps quickly, and open two apps at once in split-screen mode. It also keeps the folders you put on the shelf when you’re on your home screen, and it has a button to open the app drawer so you can get to all the apps you’ve loaded on your phone.

Even though Samsung’s One UI taskbar already has these features, it is not as flexible as the new taskbar on the Pixel Fold. It keeps showing up and takes up valuable screen space until you manually hide it. Plus, it only shows a few recent apps next to the apps you choose to pin.

The Pixel Fold’s dynamic taskbar goes away when you’re done using it, but you can easily bring it back with a touch. It also shows you ideas for apps based on how you use your phone. These might be more useful than the recently used apps since you can open the recently used apps screen by swiping up. These changes could be added to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and make it even better to switch between apps.

Galaxy Z Fold 5 Users will have Access to More Foldable-Optimized Apps

Since it first showed off Android 12L, Google has been telling app makers to make sure their apps work well on foldable and other big-screen devices. However, most apps still don’t scale well on big screens or offer different layouts for foldable. Some of Google’s own apps weren’t optimized for foldable devices for a long time, but now that the company has its own foldable, almost all of its popular apps have been updated to make better use of the foldable’s large inner screen and offer useful two-column layouts.

The Foldable Experience will Improve Even Further with Android 14

Google is probably working on more software changes for Android 14 that will improve the experience on folding devices. We already know that the next big update to the platform will make it easier to pair apps and open two apps at the same time in split-screen mode. But that’s probably not the only thing that will get better with foldable gadgets.

Since the Pixel Fold is one of the first devices to get beta builds of the update, developers and early users will be able to try out the new features before the stable rollout and give Google feedback that will help improve the software experience for foldable devices. So, when the Galaxy Z Fold 5 gets the Android 14-based One UI update, users can expect a smoother experience than before.

We can’t be sure if the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have the new features for foldable as soon as the update comes out, but they should get there eventually. Google will also keep making improvements for folding devices now that it’s in the game. These changes will trickle down to the software on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and other Samsung foldables, making them better.

The Pixel Fold Should be a Boon for All Foldables

We think that the Pixel Tablet will help Google improve Android for devices with big screens, and the Pixel Fold should do the same for devices with flexible screens. Even though Samsung’s foldable phones may be among the first to get better because of the changes, you can also expect to see improvements on other folding phones, like the upcoming OnePlus V Fold.

But we won’t know for sure until Galaxy Unpacked at the end of the month, because Google could save some features for the Pixel Fold and future Pixel foldables to make them stand out from the competition. Even so, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be one of the best phones that can be folded this year. If you can’t wait, you can reserve one by clicking on the link below and getting some nice perks.
